Coix lacryma, also known as Job's Tears, is a grain-bearing tropical plant (not-containing gluten or gluten-related proteins) native to Southeast Asia which is used as a source of food (cereals) and as a medicinal remedy to treat arthritis, chronic infections, tumors and warts. Coix seed extract possesses various biological activities, including induction of programmed cell death (apoptosis) in tumor cells, anti-ulcerogenic activity, lipid lowering activity, anti-diabetic activity, stimulation of natural killer (NK) cells, inhibition of inflammatory and allergic responses.
